Why Black Entrepreneurs Day Matters for Early STEM Education
Nov 20, 2024As we celebrate Black Entrepreneurs Day, I’m excited to share a moment of recognition and reflection on how we can transform early STEM education. I’m LJ Henderson, founder of Little STEM Masters, and as a Black entrepreneur, I’m passionate about providing equitable STEM opportunities for Black and Brown students.
While we celebrate today, there’s still more work to be done in early STEM education. Let’s dive into why Black Entrepreneurs Day matters and how we can take action for a better future.
The Urgent Need for Change in Early STEM Education
- 1 in 5 preschoolers are exposed to quality STEM learning experiences.
- Black and Brown students make up nearly 40% of the K-12 population and are disproportionately underserved in STEM.
- This lack of access in the early years leads to a major achievement gap in later math and science scores.
The Role of Educators & School Leaders
- Teachers and school leaders are the key to closing the STEM achievement gap.
- Teacher burnout is a major challenge, and many are leaving the profession due to a lack of support.
- We need to empower educators with the tools, strategies, and resources to retain teachers and ensure quality STEM learning for all students.
Every Child Deserves Equal Access to STEM
- STEM education is a right, not a privilege.
- Every child, regardless of their background, should have access to high-quality STEM learning from the very start.
- Together, we can ensure Black, Brown, and underserved students have the opportunities they deserve.
Black Entrepreneurs Day: A Milestone for Early STEM Education
- Black Entrepreneurs Day is this Friday, November 22, 2024, in Atlanta.
- I’m honored to be invited alongside leaders like Daymond John, the NAACP, and T-Mobile for Education to spotlight the importance of early STEM education.

- Boost STEM scores for all students
